From drought to flooding!

After multiple weeks with little to no rain the swamps around the Lower Suwannee River Estuary were extremely dry! Now in only a couple of days we have received 5-10 inches of rain! So now we have an abundance of freshwater with more rain predicted for the next 5 days!

This will definitely change the fishing both freshwater and saltwater. It will take a couple of days after this stormy weather leaves for the waters to stabilize. Then the key will be to locate clean water, more specifically water without suspended solids, aka MUD! This applies to the brackish water creeks as well as the creeks feeding into the Lower Suwannee River.

For the scallopers this rain is not what they wanted to see! We have had and “unexplainable” level of water quality for months from Horseshoe Beach to Cedar Key! These coastal waters are known to go through periods of “dirty water” when the Suwannee River is high or we have had a big storm. Neither of these things occurred during the last 6 months yet the water clarity has remained very low!

Y’all be safe n stay dry! Once this weather clears up the fish will be hungry so we can # Catchemup!
